Marina Starovoitova, who was appointed captain of a nuclear icebreaker for the first time in history, told reporters on August 20 that her appointment was significant.

"This is a very significant event for me. Both for me and for the history of the icebreaking fleet," said the captain.

Starovoitova also expressed her joy and pride for the trust placed in her. At the same time, she noted a great sense of responsibility towards the crew.

According to the woman, she has always admired the power of the nuclear icebreaker and the work of its crew.

"Captains of nuclear icebreakers are professionals seasoned by the Arctic," she added.

The appointment of Starovoitova to the post of captain of the Yamal nuclear icebreaker became known earlier in the day at the "Era of Dreamers" gala show in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Rosatom State Corporation. Prior to that, Starovoitova held the position of senior assistant to the ship's captain.
