In New York, a court rejected a request from the U.S. Department of Justice to publish the transcripts and physical evidence of the grand jury in the case of financier Jeffrey Epstein. This was reported on August 20 by NBC News.

"U.S. District Judge Richard Berman concluded that the government had not reached the required threshold for disclosing the transcripts, and suggested that they contained little at all," the publication says.

The judge noted that the publication of 70 pages of grand jury materials would allegedly become a "distraction" from the 100,000 pages of dossiers already available to the government in the financier's case. He also noted that another reason for the refusal is the possible threat to the safety of people affected by the participants in the process.

"According to the government, more than a thousand people are victims of Jeffrey Epstein. It's hard to say exactly how many victims advocate for disclosure," he argued.

It is noted that two other judges also rejected the government's request for disclosure of the materials. It is clarified that one of them concerned an earlier trial in Florida. The other contained information about the case of Epstein's accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell.

On August 5, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee James Comer sent subpoenas to the U.S. Department of Justice to testify to former President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary, as well as other high-ranking officials. In addition, former directors of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) James Comey and Robert Mueller, as well as former U.S. Attorneys General Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Merrick Garland, William Barr, Jeff Sessions and Alberto Gonzalez will have to testify.

On July 19, US President Donald Trump asked the US Department of Justice to release all available evidence from the jury in the Epstein case. However, later, on July 23, the Florida court rejected this request, in connection with which Trump expressed his dissatisfaction on July 28. The US president was annoyed by the mistakes made by the White House in this matter.
