Inflation in Russia has slowed to 8.46%

In Russia, inflation slowed to 8.46% in annual terms on August 18, compared with 8.55% a week earlier. This is evidenced by data from the document of the Ministry of Economic Development "On the current price situation", published on August 20.

According to the document, food prices in Russia decreased by 0.2%, including fruit and vegetable products, which amounted to 3.7%. It is specified that in the country potatoes fell in price by 8.9%, tomatoes — by 7.4%, onions — by 6.7%, beets — by 6.3%, cabbage and carrots — by 6.2%. At the same time, cucumbers rose in price by 5.2%.

It is noted that prices increased by 0.1% in the segment of non—food products, and by 0.06% in the sector of observed services (tourism, regulated and household).

Earlier, on August 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the reduction in inflation in the Russian Federation an important achievement, at the end of July this year it amounted to 8.8%. He also noted that the Central Bank of the Russian Federation (CBR) expects inflation to decrease to 6-7% by the end of the year, which is lower than previous forecasts.

Alexey Zabotkin, Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of Russia, announced on August 8 that annual inflation in Russia will continue to slow down. At the same time, he stressed that the Central Bank is not yet considering holding an extraordinary meeting on the rate against the background of lower inflation.
