The scientific expedition vessel Akademik Treshnikov with polar explorers on board has moved from the port of Murmansk to the Arctic. It will spend almost two months on the voyage, the press service of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute of the Russian Hydrometeorological Service reports.

The vessel is supposed to deliver provisions, equipment, and a shift of scientists and crew to the hard-to-reach North Pole-42 drifting station. The path to the object is complicated due to its displacement to the western hemisphere.

The Akademik Treshnikov will spend most of its journey in the drifting ice of the Arctic Ocean, Bi-Port news agency writes. The total distance that the vessel must travel is almost 9 thousand km.

The first point on the way will be Cape Baranova in the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago, the estimated time of arrival is August 24. The vessel is currently moving to the Barents Sea through the waters of the Kola Bay.

The crew of the North Pole-42 drifting station is conducting research in seven scientific areas. These are sea ice, atmosphere, oceanography, geochemistry, hydrobiology, and seabed geology. The eighth direction is the study of the strength characteristics of an ice—resistant platform under conditions of variable loads created by ice.

Earlier, Izvestia wrote that on August 20, the Bion-M satellite No. 2 will be launched into space, on board of which scientific experiments will be conducted for 30 days. They will become the basis for new discoveries in medicine, biology and technology and will bring humanity closer to interplanetary travel.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
