Folk signs for August 21, 2025
In Russia, Miron Vetrogon was celebrated on August 21. The name of the holiday is due to the fact that strong winds were blowing in many regions at the end of August. On this day, the ancestors harvested blackberries, which were highly valued because of their abundance of useful properties. This berry was used to make jam and pie fillings, and the leaves were dried to be added to tea or medicinal decoction.
Myron's ancestors used to guess by the wind. To do this, they went out to the intersection and made a wish out loud. According to legend, if the wind blew in your face after that, it means that your wish will come true soon. Otherwise, you will have to show patience and perseverance to achieve what you want.

On August 21, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of St. Myron, Bishop of Crete, who lived in the III–IV centuries. He was born on the island of Crete into a poor but pious family, was engaged in agriculture from an early age and was known for his kindness and mercy. Once, when he caught thieves in his barn, he not only did not drive them away, but also helped lift the sacks of grain. Amazed by his act, the criminals repented and returned the stolen goods. Later, Myron was elected presbyter and then bishop of Crete. During his ministry, he performed many miracles. Once, during a flood, the saint stopped the Triton River, crossing it as if on land, and returned it to its course.
Also on August 21, believers remember the transfer of the relics of Saints Zosima and Savvati of Solovetsky, the founders of the Solovetsky Monastery and the founders of monasticism in the Russian North. They were canonized in 1547 on the initiative of Metropolitan Macarius of Moscow. In August 1566, the relics of the saints were solemnly transferred to the chapel of the Transfiguration Cathedral, consecrated in their honor.
