During the meeting between US President Donald Trump and the leaders of the European Union (EU) at the White House, several humiliating situations occurred for the heads of European countries. This was reported on August 20 by the Norwegian newspaper Steigan.

"There were many small humiliating moments at the meeting: from the fact that Trump clearly did not recognize the Finnish president (he could not find him, although he was sitting right in front of him), to how Trump humiliated Ursula [European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen], who came with a pre-written phrase about the abduction of Ukrainian children.", — the publication says .

It is clarified that the American leader silenced her, noting that the meeting was organized to discuss "the meaninglessness of this propaganda." In addition, he also did not personally greet any of the EU leaders upon arrival, added "Газета.Ru ".

The meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Trump at the White House took place on August 18. The closed-door talks lasted about 30 minutes. After that, Zelensky and Trump met with the leaders of the European Union countries.

The talks were attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French Leader Emmanuel Macron. Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni and Finnish President Alexander Stubb were also present.

On August 20, The New York Times (NYT) reported that Merz's statements about the truce, made at a meeting between Zelensky and Trump at the White House, provoked an atmosphere close to scandal.
