Taratuta, a journalist, was arrested in absentia for evading the duties of a foreign agent

The court arrested in absentia the presenter of the Dozhd TV channel Yulia Taratuta (the TV channel and the journalist are recognized as foreign agents in the territory of the Russian Federation) under the article on evading the duties of a foreign agent. Information about this appeared on August 20 in the file of the Perovsky Court of Moscow on its website.

It follows from the criminal case file that the request for arrest was granted in the case initiated under Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Evading duties provided for by the legislation of the Russian Federation on foreign agents" after being brought to administrative responsibility twice within one year").

On December 16, 2022, the Russian Ministry of Justice added Taratuta to the register of foreign agents. She was included in the list in accordance with Russian law. On January 31, the Moscow Prosecutor's office demanded that a criminal case be opened against the journalist for violating the law on foreign agents. The case was opened on March 4.
