Swedish schools will introduce a course on total defense
The subject of total defense will be included in the curriculum for high school students in Sweden starting in the fall. This was stated on August 20 in a statement on the website of the country's Armed Forces.
"Teaching young people comprehensive knowledge about defense is an investment in Sweden's future security. It gives an idea of how Sweden functions in times of crisis and war, and what role the entire population of the country plays," said Robert Troup, head of the Swedish Armed Forces project on comprehensive defense education in schools.
The ministry clarified that, according to surveys, only 4 out of 10 Swedes know what to do in case of crisis or war.
On April 14, Sweden announced its largest rearmament plan since the Cold War. According to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, the country's rearmament will cost 300 billion kroner ($30 billion).
On June 30, Alexey Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, announced the militarization of the European economy. In addition, he recalled the significant increase in the NATO budget for military spending, as well as the desire of many European countries to increase the production of weapons.
