In the city of Uruma in the Japanese prefecture of Okinawa, a fire broke out on an amphibious transport dock of the US Navy USS New Orleans. This was announced on August 20 by the NHK broadcasting company.

At the moment, there is no information about the victims.

"According to a representative of the Japanese Coast Guard, it has been confirmed that smoke is rising from the bow of the ship, but so far there have been no requests to evacuate the crew," NHK reported.

Japan's Self-Defense Forces are involved in extinguishing the fire. Patrol boats were also sent to the scene of the incident.

Earlier, on August 19, an explosion occurred on a W-Sapphire ship carrying coal in the United States in the port of Baltimore. After the incident, the ship returned to the harbor under its own power to anchor.
