UAZ has upgraded the production of bridges for SUVs
The UAZ machine assembly plant has launched new equipment in the Spicer crankcase processing line. The equipment should ensure high accuracy in the production of crankcases, which will improve the quality of parts for subsequent machining, a source at the Ulyanovsk enterprise told Izvestia on August 20.
This project is part of a large-scale investment program for the technical re-equipment of production. It is designed to improve the quality and increase the volume of manufactured parts, as well as reduce labor costs.
"The introduction of a numerical control system (CNC) greatly simplifies the configuration of the cutting tool by automating the machining of parts. The equipment is capable of performing about 70 machining cycles per shift, which significantly increases productivity," the source explained.
The company said that at the first stage of the project, two new high-speed metalworking centers were purchased for the production of the Rotary Knuckle Axle part. The launch of a new CNC machine for processing bridge crankcases is called an important step in the second stage of modernization. In late 2025 and early 2026, the UAZ mechanical assembly plant plans to start updating and creating an automatic line for manufacturing differential housings.
The total amount of investments planned for the implementation of the project will amount to about 159 million rubles, of which 126.8 million rubles were provided by the Federal Fund for Industrial Development in the form of a concessional loan, UAZ added.
Earlier, on August 19, it was reported that UAZ cars will receive upgraded engines around the middle of autumn. Bench tests of the ZMZ Pro gasoline engine are currently underway at the Zavolzhsky branch of the Sollers Product Development center, and the tests are expected to be completed in September.
