- Lavrov pointed to Russia's willingness to continue working with Ukraine in an honest manner.
Russia is ready to work with Ukraine to resolve the conflict if this work is honest. This was stated on August 20 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, answering a question from Izvestia during a press conference with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi.
"President [of Russia Vladimir Putin] has said more than once that we are ready to work in any format with the understanding that the work will be honest," Lavrov said.
According to him, this work should also not be limited to attempts by European leaders to create conditions for involving the United States in an "aggressive militant campaign to preserve and strengthen Ukraine as an instrument of containing Russia."
The minister noted that Moscow is ready to discuss with Kiev the political aspects of resolving the Ukrainian crisis, and the Russian president, during a recent telephone conversation with American leader Donald Trump, confirmed his intention to continue direct negotiations.
At the same time, the Russian Federation has not yet received a response from the Ukrainian side to the proposal to create three working groups in order to more specifically consider the agenda items, groups on military, humanitarian and political issues, Lavrov added.
"Our president made a proposal not only to continue these negotiations, but also to think about raising the level of heads of delegations. And this fits into our proposal <...> that within the framework of this process a separate block should be devoted to the consideration of the political aspects of the settlement along with the military, along with the humanitarian," the Russian Foreign Minister stressed.
The meeting between Putin and Trump took place on August 15 in Anchorage, Alaska. Following the meeting, the Russian president noted the desire of his colleague from the United States to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Trump, in turn, shared that the negotiations went very well, and called the summit in Alaska wonderful.
On August 19, Lavrov confirmed that Russia was not abandoning any negotiation formats on Ukraine, either bilateral or trilateral. Moscow is interested in a serious, expert-level approach, starting from which it is possible to go through all the necessary steps step by step to prepare for the next summits, he said. On the same day, Trump announced the beginning of the search for a place for talks between Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
At the same time, the American leader said that if successful negotiations were held within the framework of a trilateral meeting, there was a "good chance" to end the conflict. At the same time, he noted that he favored a preliminary meeting between Putin and Zelensky without him.
