Russia has created a new thermobaric hand grenade

The Scientific Research Institute of Applied Chemistry has received a patent for a new thermobaric fragmentation hand grenade for destroying enemy personnel in armor protection, as well as those in hiding. This was reported by TASS on August 20 with reference to the document.

It is specified that the grenade has a cylindrical-hemispherical polymer body. At the same time, striking elements are integrated into it. Their number reaches up to 900 pieces. These elements are made in the form of balls made of steel or heavy alloy.

In addition, the grenade has a combined explosive and thermobaric compositions and is equipped with a standard UDZ-5 fuse. During an explosion, the velocity of the damaging elements is 1300 — 1500 m/s. At the same time, a complete defeat of manpower in second-class armor is possible at a distance of up to 8 m.
