French President Emmanuel Macron's adventurous and confrontational stance on Ukraine does not resonate with the administration of US President Donald Trump. This was announced on August 20 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"We are seeing an increasingly clear understanding by our partners in the United States of the need to address the root causes of the [Ukrainian] crisis," he said.

According to Lavrov, the position of European countries on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict differs from that of the United States.

"It is good that this absolutely adventurous position, a confrontational position, a position in support of the continuation of the <conflict> is not understood by the current United States administration, which seeks to understand the essence of the problems," the Russian Foreign Minister stressed.

On August 19, Macron said that Ukraine needs to maintain the size of its armed forces after the conflict ends. The French leader added that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) will also need to be "armed."

A day earlier, the leader of the French Patriots party, Florian Philippot, said that Macron was using the population's fear of the conflict in Ukraine to advance his agenda. He stressed that the French president is exaggerating the conflict and wants it to continue in order to turn the European Union into "a state and endow it with an army."
