Indonesia has recorded a series of four eruptions of the Semeru volcano in the province of East Java in the central part of the country. This was reported on August 20 by the Antara news agency with reference to the staff of the observation post.

"Mount Semeru erupted on Wednesday, at 7:21 a.m. (3:21 a.m. Moscow time) local time. The eruption column rose 800 m above the summit, or 4,476 m above sea level," said Riana Alfiana, an officer at the observation post on Mount Semeru Sigit.

He added that the eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 18 mm and a duration of 75 seconds. Antara notes that the volcano erupted three more times earlier in the day.

Mount Semeru remains in a state of anxiety. Authorities advised residents not to engage in any activity along the village of Besuk Kobokan, eight km from the epicenter of the eruption. Citizens were also advised not to participate in events within a three-kilometer radius of the volcano's crater due to the risk of red-hot rocks being released.

The Center for Volcanology and Mitigation of Geological Disasters in Indonesia reported on August 18 that the Levotobi volcano erupted on the Indonesian island of Flores, resulting in the release of ash to an altitude of 7.6 km above sea level. Locals were urged to use masks and respirators to protect their respiratory tract from volcanic smoke and ash.
