The duration of the meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, in Alaska was due to the progress made on resolving the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on August 20 by Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff in an interview with Fox News.

"We spent quite a lot of time there because we really made progress on how we can reach a peace agreement," Witkoff said.
