Israel announced the estimated timing of the operation to capture Gaza
Israel's plan to capture Gaza runs until 2026, with up to 130,000 reservists taking part in the operation. This was reported on August 20 by the Ynet portal.
"The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Wednesday released details of a planned large-scale ground operation aimed at capturing Gaza City. Up to 130,000 reservists and five permanent divisions will take part in the offensive under the leadership of the Southern Command. The phased operation is expected to last until 2026," the article says.
The IDF stressed that the safety of the hostages will be ensured throughout the operation. The troops participating in the operation will rotate. The Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Eyal Zamir, demanded that mobilization begin in September so that reservists could spend the summer with their families and be on site by the beginning of the school year.
The call—up of reservists will take place in three stages - in September, November and March. About 40 thousand people have already received summonses. At the peak of the operation, 12 brigade-level combat groups will be involved, supported by two regional brigades of the Gaza Division.
About half of the mobilized reservists will serve in command units, intelligence, the Air Force and the Navy, and not participate in combat operations, the IDF said. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz approved the plan of the Chief of the General Staff.
Earlier on August 20, in preparation for the operation to capture the city of Gaza, the IDF called up 60 thousand soldiers from the reserve and extended the service life of 20 thousand reservists. The operation was called "Gideon's Chariots 2". It was clarified that Katz, after approving the plan, stated that "with the completion of the operation, Gaza will change its appearance and will no longer look like it did in the past."
On August 8, the Israeli Security Cabinet approved Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to occupy Gaza. The next day, thousands of people protested in Tel Aviv against the Israeli Prime minister's plan to seize the Gaza Strip.
