Lukashenko announced the preparation of a strategic cooperation agreement with Iran
Belarus and Iran have agreed to conclude a strategic cooperation agreement. This was stated by Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko on August 20 following talks with Iranian leader Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Head of State assessed the negotiations as meaningful. According to him, the parties have achieved good results that will make it possible to make positive changes in bilateral cooperation.
"It will be a good outcome of these shifts if we prepare and sign a strategic cooperation agreement in the near future, as agreed with the president," BelTA news agency quoted Lukashenko as saying.
In addition, he confirmed support for Iran's right to develop peaceful nuclear energy, noting that Belarus strives to build a multipolar world where each country independently determines its own path of development without outside interference.
Lukashenko also condemned Western sanctions against Minsk and Tehran, calling them "economic terrorism." According to him, both countries are successfully resisting these restrictions.
On August 11, Pezeshkian and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discussed the strategic importance of peace in the Caucasus for Iran. He noted that any border changes in the region could lead to geopolitical rivalry. According to him, Iran and Armenia are determined to raise the level of partnership to a strategic one, and the parties intend to intensify mutual visits.
