- The political scientist noted the lack of immediate plans to deploy NATO troops in Ukraine.
There are no plans to deploy NATO troops in Ukraine in the near future. Pavel Feldman, Candidate of Political Sciences, Professor at the Academy of Labor and Social Relations, told Izvestia on August 20.
He noted that the main purpose of the special military operation (SVO) is to prevent the West from using Ukrainian territory as a base for attacks on Russia.
"Moscow cannot agree to a truce if it implies the actual occupation of Ukraine by the troops of European countries. By offering occupation to Kiev under the guise of security guarantees, the so—called "coalition of the willing" demonstrates a complete misunderstanding of the root causes of the conflict," the expert said.
The political scientist said that during the negotiations, Russia will again need to explain to its European partners that such an approach to settlement is unacceptable for it. He emphasized that a constructive dialogue is possible only if the interests of all parties are respected.
On August 19, US President Donald Trump noted the desire of France, Germany and Britain to deploy troops in Ukraine. The American leader also said that while he holds the post of head of state, there will be no American troops in Ukraine. Bloomberg, citing sources, reported on the same day that about 10 countries had expressed their willingness to send troops to Ukraine as part of providing possible security guarantees for Kiev.
