- Scientists and the Ministry of Emergency Situations have not found any threats to the settlements of Kamchatka after the eruptions
Aerial survey of Kamchatka's active volcanoes revealed no threats after the July 30 earthquake. The monitoring was carried out by experts from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (IVIS) Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This was announced on August 20 on the official website of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.
"Since the beginning of the Klyuchevsky volcano eruption, dozens of ash emissions have been recorded, in some cases the threat of ash falls in nearby settlements has been announced. <...> According to the results of our survey, there is no threat to the life of the population," said Oleg Kistanov, Deputy head of the Civil Defense and Population Protection Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Kamchatka Territory.
Scientists had previously warned that an eruption could trigger mudflows. They are able to reach populated areas and block roads by moving along riverbeds. At the same time, experts stressed that there is no threat to the road at the moment — its erosion is not predicted.
On July 30, a powerful earthquake of magnitude 8.7 occurred in the Kamchatka Territory. A tsunami threat was declared on the coast of the Avacha Bay. Emergency regimes were introduced in the North Kuril region of the Sakhalin Region and in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. According to the Ministry of Health of the Kamchatka Territory, one person was injured in the region, his condition is satisfactory.
Klyuchevskoy volcano became active after the earthquake in Kamchatka on July 30. So, on August 9, an ash discharge occurred from the volcano to a height of more than 11.5 km. In addition, on August 12, the KVERT of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported the emission of ash by the volcano at 7 km above sea level with a plume extending for 140 km.
