In St. Petersburg, an 88-year-old pensioner gave 3.1 million rubles to fraudsters, trying to save her savings from a fictional attack by intruders. This was announced on Wednesday, August 20, by a source of Izvestia.

"On August 17, a St. Petersburg woman answered a call from strangers who stated that she had become a victim of scams. The woman was convinced that her savings would be safe if she handed them over to the courier," the source said.

On the same day, the pensioner met with an unknown girl at her apartment in Vasileostrovsky district and handed her 3.1 million rubles. A criminal case has been opened into the incident.

On August 16, it was reported that in Novosibirsk, two fraudsters tricked a pensioner out of 1 million rubles. It was clarified that the malefactors convinced the pensioner to give all the money for the "conspiracy", promising to put it under her pillow for three days. In the pensioner's absence, the money was replaced by a newspaper. The pensioner's daughter discovered the deception, and then contacted the police.
