At least 76 people were killed in road accidents in western Afghanistan

In the western province of Herat in Afghanistan, an accident involving a passenger bus, motorcycle and truck occurred, as a result of which at least 76 people were killed and three were injured. This was reported on Wednesday, August 20, by the Pajhwok agency, citing the authorities.

"A 580 passenger bus traveling from Islam Qala to Kabul collided with a motorcycle and a Mazda truck on the ring road, after which it caught fire," said Mufti Mohammad Yusuf Saidi, a spokesman for the governor of Herat.

Among the dead are elderly people, women, children, a bus driver, a motorcyclist and a truck driver. Three participants in the accident were seriously injured. The bodies of the victims were taken to the morgue, prepared for burial and shipment to Kabul province.

The administration of Herat expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and confirmed that rescue and medical services immediately arrived at the scene.

On August 18, a bus overturned on the Northern Marble Highway in Istanbul, killing three people and injuring 20 others. The accident occurred at about 06:15 (coincides with Moscow time). The vehicle was traveling from Tokat to Tekirdag. The driver lost control and crashed into the guardrail. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
