Italy demanded to ban Israel from FIFA and UEFA tournaments
The Italian Association of Coaches (AIAC) has sent a letter to the President of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), Gabriele Gravina, calling on the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to and the International Football Federation (FIFA) to temporarily suspend Israel from international competitions. The letter was posted on the AIAC website on August 19.
"The request, which will be sent to UEFA and FIFA, concerns the temporary suspension of Israel from international competitions," the publication says.
It is proposed to consider the issue of suspending the Jewish state from tournaments under clause 5 of Article 2, which states that the FIGC promotes the exclusion of any form of discrimination from football. According to the text of the letter, the magnitude of the events taking place requires not only awareness from the outside, but also concrete actions.
On August 14, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, called on UEFA to suspend Israel from tournaments. This is how she commented on the news about the death of former Palestinian national football team player Suleiman Al-Obeid. The athlete died in an Israeli attack on civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip on August 13.
