Former WBC middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has been deported from the United States to Mexico on suspicion of links to a drug cartel. This was reported by the Associated Press on August 19.

"As far as I understand, he was deported. I don't know if it happened yesterday or this morning, but we were informed that he had arrived in Mexico," Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said.

The 39-year-old boxer has 54 wins, one draw and seven losses. He was the WBC World champion from 2011 to 2012 and is the son of Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., a three—weight world champion.

On July 3, it was reported that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had arrested Chavez Jr. on suspicion of possible ties to the cartel. In 2024, the boxer applied for permanent residence, referring to his marriage to an American citizen who had previously been in a relationship with one of the sons of Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, which strained federal agencies.
