The Melnitsa Center for Support of Large Families, an autonomous non-profit organization (NGO) in Moscow, has been actively helping participants in the special Military Operation (SVO) and residents of new territories since 2022, bringing together Muscovites from the Biryulyovo Vostochnoye district of the Southern Administrative District. As reported on August 20 on the website of the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, over three and a half years, residents of the district have transferred more than 150,000 units of aid.

Volunteers send groceries, make camouflage nets, balaclavas, knit warm clothes, transfer underwear and much more. Mothers with many children living in the area are actively involved in this.

"Volunteering is not just about helping, it's about threads of kindness that unite people for a common goal. Mosvolonter works with more than three thousand organizations in the capital. <...> Every box, parcel, letter or child's drawing that is handed over is a sign of support, kindness and care," said Ekaterina Dragunova, Chairman of the Moscow Committee for Public Relations and Youth Policy.

For people who were forced to relocate to the Kursk and Belgorod regions, volunteers also bring food, warm clothes, blankets, and personal hygiene products. For this purpose, the headquarters and "Houses of Kindness" of the Moscow Helps project have been opened.

"We have opened a group to help fighters on the social network, where we regularly talk about our successes and requests that are received. We post information about how many things we managed to collect and send to those in need. <...> We share our experience on how we sew, knit, make amulets, weave camouflage nets, and make pillows for hospitals," said Maria Bespalova, head of the Melnitsa Center.

In 2024 alone, the volunteers of the Melnitsa Support Center for Large Families sent more than 60 boxes of pasta, cereals, canned food, sweets, condensed milk, sugar, dry cereals and many others to the fighters.

The day before, it was reported that farmers participating in Moscow fairs handed over apples from their orchards to the SVO fighters, as well as residents of frontline territories and refugees. The action was timed to coincide with the Yablochny Spas holiday. All the fruits were donated to the charity fund "We are near", which has been collecting humanitarian supplies since 2022.
