"What [US President Donald] was striving for Trump, responsible European and especially German politicians could have done it themselves long ago: namely, to establish lines of communication with Russia in order to explore the possibilities of ending the conflict," she said.

Weidel stressed that those people who have been critical of the idea of contacts with Russia over the past 3.5 years are now thanking Trump for his efforts in diplomacy.
