Second Lieutenant Kolchanov's platoon eliminated the AFU stronghold with mortar fire
Private Alexander Pozdeev served as the senior gunner of the mortar crew of a mortar platoon and was on assignment to transfer the gun to another direction to help neighboring units of the Russian Army when he was attacked by an enemy drone. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on Wednesday, August 20, told about the exploits of Russian servicemen in the area of the special military operation (SVO).
In addition to reorienting the mortar, Pozdeev was instructed to deliver a supply of missiles for the gun to a new position. On the way to the designated guard point, a private soldier heard the drone's engine nearby. After examining the sky, Pozdeev noticed a heavy unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), approaching its calculation. The soldier immediately reported the threat to the commander and opened fire on the drone with his personal weapon. As a result, the drone was shot down and the crew continued to complete the task.
The Russian Defense Ministry also noted the professionalism of Guard Second Lieutenant Sergei Kolchanov, who commanded the mortar platoon, and the competent actions of his subordinates.
Kolchanov was conducting reconnaissance of the area using a drone when he noticed a camouflaged Ukrainian Armed Forces stronghold nearby. The soldier continued to observe and discovered that the enemy was pulling equipment and personnel to the support post, probably intending to counterattack units of the Russian army.
After waiting for some time and making sure that the approach of additional forces was over, Kolchanov ordered the platoon to strike at the target, and he himself began to adjust the fire. As a result, it was possible to eliminate the support post itself, two armored combat vehicles and part of the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Earlier, on August 19, the Russian Defense Ministry told how Guard Corporal Sergei Shchelkunov participated in the defense of civil and military infrastructure from the air attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and was able to destroy two JDAM bombs.
Prior to that, on August 18, the department reported that Guard Sergeant Igor Kuzuba, as part of an assault group, was carrying out a combat mission to capture an AFU stronghold. He and his comrades secretly approached the enemy firing point, took up an advantageous position, surrounded the enemy stronghold, after which he fired an RPG-7, destroying a machine gun and wounding two Ukrainian servicemen.
