Sobyanin spoke about the revival of historical stadiums in Moscow
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced a large-scale reconstruction of the capital's historic stadiums.
On Tuesday, August 19, the official noted that the development of sports and healthy lifestyle infrastructure includes not only the construction of new complexes, but also the restoration of old facilities, many of which fell into disrepair in the 1990s.
According to him, the process takes time: first you need to transfer the facilities to the ownership of the city and cancel the building projects, after which you can start updating. In recent years, five stadiums have been reconstructed, and two more are in the works, Moscow 24 writes.
Among the completed projects is the Lokomotiv Stadium in Lublin, where a modern sports complex with playing and training fields, administrative buildings and infrastructure for athletes has appeared. Similar transformations took place in the Avangard sports complex in Perovo, where, in addition to a heated football field, playgrounds for various sports and a unique indoor skatepark were equipped, the Moscow City News agency reports.
For the first time in half a century, the Moskvich complex in Tekstilshchiki received a new pitch with lawn, bleachers and a media system, and the Desna stadium in the village of Ptitchnoye received the opportunity for year—round training thanks to a heated field and an expanded sports base, RT notes.
The reconstruction of the Metallurg Stadium, which will become a sports center for Bauman Moscow State Technical University students and residents of the district, is nearing completion. Work continues at the Avtomobilist stadiums in the Savelovsky district and Molniya in Dmitrovsky: bleachers, training areas, an ice rink, a swimming pool will be renovated here and new sports pavilions will be built.
Sobyanin stressed that the revival of such facilities would be a gift to Muscovites and would make sports more accessible and more comfortable.
