The Federation Council explained Trump's invitation to Russia
The invitation of US President Donald Trump to visit Russia does not mean that he will deal only with the Ukrainian issue. Andrei Klimov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council's International Affairs Committee, expressed this opinion on Tuesday, August 19.
According to the politician, Russian-American relations require a resumption of dialogue, and there is a long list of things that can be discussed with the United States.
"When did the meeting in Alaska and [Russian President Vladimir] Putin end? Putin invited Trump to us, he was talking about Moscow in this case, then, of course, on the one hand, it was a gesture of politeness and a generally accepted practice of such summits. <...> And if Trump is coming to Moscow, this does not mean at all that he is coming only to deal with the "Ukrainian" issue in quotation marks," the senator said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
He stressed that Russian-American relations, which were interrupted during Joe Biden's presidency, are self-sufficient and require the resumption of dialogue.
"Now there is another story, it is called the settlement of the "Ukrainian" conflict in quotation marks. This story suggests, at least as Washington sees it, that there should be direct contact, perhaps at a higher level, between the Kiev team of current leaders and Russia's top leadership. After this meeting takes place, when and if it happens, in this case, Trump considers it possible to meet for three," Klimov said.
He recalled that, according to Washington, the meeting of the heads of the United States, Russia and Ukraine should take place after the bilateral meeting between Moscow and Kiev.
Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed Trump's official invitation to Russia, Moscow 24 writes.
He added that Putin confirmed this invitation at a press conference during the summit between the Russian Federation and the United States in Alaska, IA Regnum reports. According to the minister, the invitation has already been sent.
The meeting between Putin and Trump took place on August 15 in Anchorage, Alaska. During a joint press conference, the Russian president noted the desire of his colleague from the United States to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Trump, in turn, shared that the negotiations went very well and called the summit in Alaska wonderful.
