People held on a farm in the Voronezh region were lured by a part-time job
Most of the people rescued from slavery on a farm in the Voronezh Region said they had been imprisoned by accepting a part-time job that their friends had told them about. Arina Khairushina, lawyer and coordinator of the Alternative movement, informed Izvestia about this on August 19.
"They shared a similar story, that they were invited to work part-time by friends, and they agreed that they would work in the fields, help with household chores for a month. They were promised a salary, but in the end they were not paid, but they continued to promise that they would definitely be paid," she said.
Khairushina stressed that all victims of labor exploitation came to the farm from different regions and even countries — they were lured by attractive conditions, and then kept by blackmail and threats.
"People in such places are often held by fear, and distrust is cultivated there. <...> Therefore, when they first communicate, they say that everything is fine, and, in general, they do not need any help. And then we keep receiving applications from the same place," the lawyer summed up.
On the same day, investigators began checking on the illegal detention and beating of people on a farm in the Voronezh region. Also earlier, the Alternative organization said that there are about 100 people on a farm in the village of Podkolodnovka. According to the volunteers, they managed to rescue four workers from labor slavery — their relatives informed the movement about their disappearance.
