The court sentenced in absentia one of the heads of the Memorial center (included in the register of non-profit organizations performing the functions of a foreign agent) Sergey Davidis to 6 years in a penal colony. This was announced on August 19 by the Moscow Prosecutor's Office.

"In January 2022, Chairman of the Memorial Human Rights Center and head of the project "Support for political prisoners. Memorial" (included in the register of non-profit organizations performing the functions of a foreign agent) Sergey Davidis published publicly on his personal page on one of the social networks messages justifying and recognizing as legitimate the actions of prisoners of war from the Azov regiment, recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in the territory of the Russian Federation, posting their personal data, locations detention in a pre-trial detention center, as well as a crypto wallet account for transferring assistance to them," the department's Telegram channel says.

As a result, the head of the center was found guilty in accordance with Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public justification of terrorism committed using information and telecommunication networks, including the Internet"). It is specified that this criminal case was considered in the absence of the defendant, who is currently on the international wanted list.

In addition, according to the court's decision, Davidis was deprived of the right to participate in activities aimed at creating and administering websites in electronic and information and telecommunication networks, including the Internet, for three years. At the moment, the verdict has not entered into legal force, clarifies "Газета.Ru ".

Earlier, on July 18, a correspondent for Izvestia reported that the 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced journalist Farida Kurbangaleeva (listed in the register of foreign agents of the Russian Federation, the list of extremists and terrorists) to eight years in prison in absentia in the case of justifying terrorism and spreading fakes about the Russian Armed Forces (RF Armed Forces). She was also banned from website administration for a period of four years.

On June 26, Kurbangaleeva was arrested in absentia for two months. On July 30, the court rejected her appeal against her arrest in absentia. On October 9, the journalist was put on the international wanted list for spreading false information about the Russian Armed Forces.

The Ministry of Justice added Kurbangaleeva to the list of foreign agents on June 28 for spreading fakes about decisions taken by public authorities of the Russian Federation and their policies. On October 18, she appealed her status as a foreign agent in court.
