If Ukraine renounces its neutrality, the provisions underlying its recognition as an independent State disappear. This was announced on August 19 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"If [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Putin's regime is now Zelensky refuses all these characteristics, talks about nuclear weapons, joining NATO, abandoning neutrality, then the provisions underlying the recognition of Ukraine as an independent state disappear," he said on the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
