- Two more Pskov sites will be included in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative list.
In the Pskov Region, two more sites have been proposed to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list at the national level. These are the Church of the Assumption in Meletovo and the Pushkin Literary Landscape.
Maria Lisenkova, head of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Management Service, told the Pskov News Feed that the Service was working on the preparation of the list of sites jointly with the Pskov Museum Reserve and the Pushkin Nature Reserve.
The cultural monument "Church of the Assumption in Meletovo" was already nominated for the list back in 2002. The church in Meletovo with paintings of the XV century complement the picture of monumental painting on the territory of the Pskov region. The church has a fairly large percentage of paintings preserved, for this reason it was decided to start work on including it as a separate monument or to expand the nomination "Temples of the Pskov Architectural School".
As for the Pushkin Literary Landscape, the poet's museum in Mikhailovsky is not just a place of Pushkin's memory, but also a beautiful landscape, referring to the 19th century.
In June, it was reported that by the end of 2025, all work in the Pskov Church of St. Nicholas with Usokha should be completed in Pskov. The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker from Usokha was built in 1535. It is included in the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List. As part of the restoration, the specialists managed to recreate the volume of the southern limit of the church, which is based on drawings by architect Yuri Spegalsky.
