Ukraine is in no hurry to resolve the issue of exhumation of victims of the Volyn massacre. This was announced to journalists on August 19 by the press secretary of the President of Poland Rafal Leskevich.

"So far, there are no serious signals that would indicate a change in Ukraine's position," Onet Wiadomosci quoted him as saying.

Leskevich called the resolution of issues related to the victims of the Volyn massacre and the conduct of search and exhumation work one of the most important.

The press secretary of the Polish president stressed that Warsaw wants to systematically solve the problem of issuing permits for the start of work. He stressed that more than 100,000 victims are buried on the territory, whose families are waiting for the unmarked graves to be examined, the remains to be extracted and their decent burial.

Earlier, on July 31, Polish President Karol Nawrocki held a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky and demanded a change in approach to the issues of common history that are important to Poles. During the talks, the Polish leader stressed that historical issues will continue to be the subject of discussions with Zelensky in the future.

Prior to that, on June 5, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemned Poland's decision to grant state status to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Volyn massacre. It was noted that the Polish parliament almost unanimously (435 votes out of 436) supported the initiative to introduce a memorable date on July 11 as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the events of 1943.
