The first mass mentions of electric scooters in the Russian media and social networks were often accompanied by emotional overtones and loud headlines about accidents or violations of the rules. However, by 2024, the nature of the discussions had changed: the conversations became more substantive, and the number of positive reviews consistently exceeded the share of negativity. This is stated in the results of a study by Sidorin Lab (SL) analysts, which were reviewed by Izvestia on August 19.

By now, positive mentions account for exactly half of all messages. 19% are neutral, 31% are negative. At the same time, criticism more often comes from existing users, rather than from opponents of the service, experts said.

Proponents of electric scooters often talk about freedom, convenience, and benefit. 46% of positive messages are associated with emotions and a feeling of "wind in the face"; 34% — with mobility and the ability to avoid traffic jams; 14% — with savings compared to taxis; 13% — with comfort compared to public transport. The main loyal audience is men aged 35-44 from Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Negativity in discussions is more often associated with technical and organizational problems. 19% complain about application failures and GPS errors; 16% — about situations related to safety and the risk of injury; 12% — about parking difficulties; 11% — about poor stability in the rain; 10% — about the rental price, which users consider high; 7% — about the quality of customer service support services.

"At the same time, we are not talking about the requirement to ban electric scooters. On the contrary, most users see them as part of urban mobility and advocate for the development of the service: they ask to increase the stability of applications, improve geolocation accuracy, make parking more convenient and adapt equipment to different weather conditions. This format of criticism indicates the willingness of the audience to continue using scooters, provided that the service becomes better and more comfortable," SL concluded.

Earlier that day, it was reported that Russia had proposed exploring the possibility of introducing special insurance for users of personal mobility equipment (SIM), including electric scooters, which would operate on the principle of CTP, but would be voluntary.
