The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia has called on citizens of the republic to refrain from any trips to Russia. The corresponding statement was published on the Ministry's website on August 19.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly recommends against making any trips to Russia," the statement said.

In addition, Estonian citizens who are temporarily staying in the Russian Federation were advised to "return to the republic as soon as possible."

On August 13, the Estonian Foreign Ministry announced that it was expelling a Russian diplomat, the first secretary of the Russian Embassy in Tallinn. According to the agency, the diplomat allegedly participated in undermining the constitutional order of Estonia and splitting Estonian society. They also noted that this measure complies with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and Estonia will not allow "any actions organized by a foreign state on its territory."

On the same day, the Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Press (DIP) Russian Foreign Minister Alexei Fadeev said that the expulsion of a Russian diplomat from Estonia and the declaration of his persona non grata is not the first hostile action by Tallinn against Russia. According to him, the Russian Federation will take retaliatory steps to Estonia's actions, the agency will inform about them later.
