Accessibility and quality of education are the basis for the success of Russia's development. This was announced on August 19 by Russian President Vladimir Putin in his greeting to the participants, organizers and guests of the All-Russian Pedagogical Congress.

According to him, the forum brought together teachers, scientists, mentors, representatives of government authorities and public organizations from all over the country to discuss the priorities of the development of the education system.

"Such an authoritative composition of participants fully corresponds to the main purpose of your meeting, because education, its accessibility and quality are the key factor, the basis for the long—term success of Russia's development," the head of state said in a telegram posted on the Kremlin's website.

The President called it important that Russian pedagogy differs in its multifaceted and versatile approach. He noted that in this regard, joint plans for the future should take into account the best traditions of the pre-revolutionary, Soviet and modern Russian schools.

Putin also stressed his intention to address key issues, including updating the content of curricula and training qualified teachers. He pointed out the need to ensure a comparable and decent level of pay and working conditions for teachers and lecturers in the Russian regions.

In addition, the head of state expressed hope that during the open discussions of the round tables, experts would be able to exchange ideas and best practices, build a "living" education system to realize the potential and solve key tasks of the state's development.

Earlier, on August 14, Viktor Panin, chairman of the All—Russian Society for the Protection of the Rights of Consumers of educational services "Decent education for Russian Citizens," announced a critical shortage of teachers in Russian schools. According to him, last year there were about 100,000 primary school teachers, 73,000 math teachers and 59,000 foreign language teachers missing. He clarified that the situation varies from region to region.
