Schedule of school holidays in the 2025/26 academic year

The Russian Ministry of Education has approved the recommended schedule for school holidays. According to the head of the department, Sergey Kravtsov, the school year will last from September 1 to May 26, and during this time students will be able to rest at least three times. Izvestia tells us when Russian schools will have holidays in 2025/26.

Holidays in the 2025/26 academic year in quarters

Each educational institution sets vacation dates independently. Nevertheless, the management of schools and gymnasiums is based on the recommendations of the Ministry of Education. This is especially true for institutions with a quarter-year education system. It involves dividing the academic year into four unequal parts, each of which ends with an interim assessment. As a rule, with such a schedule, the second and fourth quarters are the shortest, and the third is the longest.

According to the recommendations of the Ministry of Education, the following vacation dates are provided for the quarter system:

• autumn — from October 25 to November 2;
• winter — from December 31 to January 11;
• spring — from March 28 to April 5;
• summer — from May 27 to August 31.

What will change in schools from September 1: for children, parents and teachers

The main changes will affect the way of communication and school uniforms.

At the same time, it is recommended for first—graders to allocate additional rest days in the longest, third quarter - from February 16 to 22. This is necessary so as not to overload children who are just starting their studies.

Holidays in the 2025/26 academic year by trimester

The trimester education system is an alternative to the quarters. With this schedule, the academic year is divided into three equal parts, each of which is divided into two modules of the same duration. As a result, students study for five weeks and then spend a week on vacation. This format allows you to distribute the workload more evenly throughout the year.

When studying in trimesters, the total duration of the holidays remains about the same as in the quarter system, but students have much more opportunities to relax — from September to May they take breaks from school five times. According to the recommendations of the Moscow Department of Education and Science, the following dates are allocated for trimester holidays:

• The first ones are from October 4 to October 12.;
• The second is from November 15th to 23rd.;
• The third period is from December 31 to January 11.;
• The fourth is from February 21 to March 1.;
• The fifth is from March 28 to April 4.

When are students still out of school in 2025/26

In addition to the holidays, additional days off are provided for schoolchildren during public holidays. Among them:

• National Unity Day — November 4th;
• Defender of the Fatherland Day — February 23;
• International Women's Day — March 8th;
• Labor Day — May 1st;
• Victory Day is May 9th.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education updated the standard of permissible workload for schoolchildren. From September 1, 2025, the maximum number of academic hours per year for first—graders will be 653, for grades 2-4 — from 782 to 884, and for fifth grades - no more than 1088.
