- The WSJ has learned about the possible use of US intelligence sharing to put pressure on Kiev
The United States could use intelligence sharing as a "lever of pressure" on Ukraine to conclude a deal. This was reported on August 19 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
"Among the various pressure mechanisms that the United States could use against Ukraine to encourage Kiev to agree to a potentially unfavorable deal is the exchange of intelligence," the article says.
According to unnamed sources, although the March pause in intelligence sharing was short-lived, relations between representatives and intelligence officials of the United States and Ukraine deteriorated.
Earlier, on the evening of August 18, US President Donald Trump held a meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky at the White House. The closed-door talks lasted about 30 minutes.
During the meeting, Trump noted that in a week or two the prospects for resolving the Ukrainian conflict through negotiations would become clear. He clarified that there are no "too complicated issues" in the Ukrainian settlement. Later, the American leader announced the beginning of the search for a place for Zelensky's talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
