The leaders of the European Union (EU) countries that are part of the "coalition of the willing" failed to outplay US President Donald Trump on the Ukrainian issue during a meeting at the White House. This was announced on August 19 by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council.

"The anti—Russian militant "coalition of the willing" could not outplay the US president on his territory," he wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to Medvedev, the question now is what kind of rhetoric Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will choose regarding security guarantees for his country after returning to Kiev.

Zelensky and US President Donald Trump met at the White House on August 18. The closed-door talks lasted about 30 minutes. After that, Zelensky and Trump met with the leaders of the European Union countries.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French Leader Emmanuel Macron are taking part in the meeting. Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni and Finnish President Alexander Stubb are also present.

During the talks, Trump noted that in a week or two the prospects for resolving the Ukrainian conflict through negotiations would be clear. He also stressed that there are no "too complicated" issues in the Ukrainian settlement.
