Stubb stated that there were no similarities between Ukraine and Finland in 1944.
There is no similarity between the situation in Ukraine and the situation in Finland in 1944. This was announced on August 18 by Finnish President Alexander Stubb after a meeting between the presidents of the United States and Ukraine, Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky, at the White House.
During the event, the Finnish leader noted that his words about finding a solution to the conflict in 2025, by analogy with 1944, did not imply territorial concessions from Kiev.
"The situation in 1944 was completely different. Finland was one of the parties back then. There was no choice," the Ilta-Sanomat newspaper quoted Stubb as saying.
According to him, at that time the country retained its independence, but lost part of its sovereignty and territories.
"Our goal, of course, is to ensure the preservation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity in the long term. In other words, there is no similarity between these situations," the Finnish president added.
Stubb said yesterday that following a meeting of the leaders of the United States, the European Union (EU) and Ukraine at the White House, the process of working out security guarantees for Kiev had begun. According to the politician, details about future guarantees may be made public next week.
Zelensky and Trump met at the White House on August 18. The closed-door talks lasted about 30 minutes. After that, the President of the United States and the head of the Kiev regime met with the leaders of the European Union.
