Political risk consultant Adriel Casonta spoke on August 19 about the necessary circumstances that will lead to a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

According to the expert, one of the reasons why countries fail to come to peace is the government of Ukraine, in particular, the presidency of Vladimir Zelensky. As Kasonta noted, the Ukrainian leader sees personal benefits in ending the conflict.

"The problem lies in the current government, without a strong position of Ukrainian allies, supporters and investors, Ukraine will not stop its madness. <...> He [Zelensky] also stated that elections in this country will take place only after the end of the conflict," Casonta emphasized in an interview with Izvestia.

According to the political scientist, in order to ensure peace in Europe, it is necessary to perceive Russia as a partner, not as an enemy.

"As soon as Western governments begin to seriously consider Russia as a partner, and not as a malicious necessity, we will have a lasting peace," the expert explained.

The political scientist expressed hope for the efforts of Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.

Earlier in the day, American political scientist Malek Dudakov assessed Trump's ability to persuade Ukraine and the EU to accept Russia's terms. According to the expert, Trump has levers of pressure on Ukraine: the country still depends on certain military trenches of the United States, and the Americans can block some of this, for example, the exchange of intelligence.

On August 18, Egor Dibrov, a political scientist, specialist in political and economic conflicts, and an employee of the Faculty of Political Science at Lomonosov Moscow State University, warned of the consequences for Kiev if Zelensky adopted Trump's plan. He noted that if Zelensky accepts the American leader's proposal to abandon Crimea and NATO, this could lead to peace. However, this outcome does not suit the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Alliance.
