The doctor named five products for joint health
For healthy joints, the diet should include foods such as mackerel, almonds, strawberries, olive oil and broccoli. On August 19, Oles Tikhonov, an orthopedic traumatologist and head of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics at the MedSwiss network of medical centers, told "Газете.Ru ".
According to him, salmon, mackerel, sardines, herring are one of the main sources of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which have a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect, are able to reduce the level of pro-inflammatory cytokines and prostaglandins, reducing inflammation in the joint membrane.
"Regular consumption of fatty fish reduces the risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis by 52%," Tikhonov said.
He also noted that nuts and seeds, which contain vitamin E, magnesium, zinc, as well as plant forms of omega-3, have a good effect on joints.
"These substances are involved in the regulation of inflammation, protect cell membranes from damage, and help maintain the structure of cartilage tissue. Berries (cherries, blueberries, strawberries) contain a high concentration of antioxidants, in particular anthocyanins, which help reduce inflammatory processes in the body, including in the joints. Berries are also rich in vitamin C, an important component for the synthesis of collagen, which is necessary to maintain the strength of cartilage tissue," said the doctor.
Tikhonov added that olive oil contains oleocanthal, a natural substance that blocks the enzymes COX—1 and COX-2 involved in inflammation, and thereby helps reduce pain and swelling in the joints.
"And broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables (cauliflower and Brussels sprouts) are rich in sulforaphane, a compound that can block enzymes that destroy articular cartilage and reduce inflammation. Cruciferous fruits also contain fiber, antioxidants, and phytonutrients that support the overall health of the human body," the doctor concluded.
Earlier, on August 18, a gastroenterologist of the first category, nutritionist, and eating psychologist Nuria Dianova stated that tea with honey was not beneficial. According to her, honey is a high—calorie and expensive product, essentially comparable to sugar, so you should not look for special benefits in it.
