The risk of tick bites at the end of August remains high. This was announced by the press service of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) on Monday, August 18.

"They are active in warm weather and are found in forests, parks, tall grass and shrubs," the Moscow City News Agency quoted the agency as saying.

Since the beginning of the tick activity season, more than 496 thousand people have applied to medical institutions in connection with bites. Rospotrebnadzor clarified that more than 3.6 million Russian citizens have been vaccinated against tick-borne viral encephalitis this year.

To reduce the likelihood of a bite, it is recommended to use light-colored closed clothing, tuck trousers into socks and, if possible, avoid passing through thickets and tall grass. Repellents can be applied to clothing and exposed areas of the body according to the manufacturer's instructions.

"Do not forget to inspect pets. If you are bitten by a tick, consult a doctor immediately," the agency concluded.

On August 14, infectious disease specialist Vladimir Neronov told RIAMO that smearing a tick with oil or alcohol is risky for health.

According to the specialist, this will only cause him to regurgitate the contents of his stomach, and with it the infection — directly into your blood, reports 360.ru .

In Russia, the incidence of borreliosis is recorded more often than other tick-borne infections. Lyme disease was carried by 19% of the pests studied in the country's laboratories.
