Trump noted the success of negotiations with Zelensky
On August 18, US President Donald Trump called the talks with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at the White House successful.
"We are having a very successful day so far, and important discussions are underway as we work to end the conflict in Ukraine. We are all working for a common goal," Trump said.
The American leader stressed that important topics aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine were discussed during the talks.
In addition, Trump said that a trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Ukrainian leader is planned in the near future.
"After these meetings, we will call each other, and perhaps we will have a trilateral meeting. There is a high probability that we will be able to finish everything if such a meeting takes place," the US president said.
Zelensky and US President Donald Trump met at the White House on August 18. The closed-door talks lasted about 30 minutes. After that, Zelensky and Trump met with the leaders of the European Union countries.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French Leader Emmanuel Macron are taking part in the meeting. Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni and Finnish President Alexander Stubb are also present.
