- The WSJ has learned about Ukraine's possible recognition of Russia's control over new regions
Ukraine has allowed the possibility of Russia's de facto control of new regions, but is not ready to recognize this legally. This was reported on August 18 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources.
"Ukraine is ready to consider recognizing Russia's de facto control, <...> but is not ready to grant Russia legal recognition of these territories," the newspaper notes.
On August 18, US President Donald Trump, during a meeting with European leaders at the White House, announced the need to discuss a potential exchange of territories to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. The American leader also added that when discussing the exchange, the current line of contact at the front will be taken into account. He expressed confidence that Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky will be able to find a common language with Russian President Vladimir Putin to resolve the conflict.
