The United States called Trump's approval of the idea of a four-way meeting unlikely.
US President Donald Trump is unlikely to agree to hold a four-way meeting with the participation of Europe, which was proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron during talks at the White House. This assumption was made by CNN on August 18.
"While President Donald Trump is promoting the idea of a trilateral meeting between himself, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron is offering an idea: the European leader will also sit down at the negotiating table. <...> It seems unlikely that Trump will approve of this idea, at least in the short term," the article says.
The TV channel added that Trump may disagree with Macron's proposal, since he himself is working to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. However, according to Macron, a lot is at stake in today's negotiations, not only for Ukraine, but also for Europe.
At a meeting of the leaders of the United States, Ukraine and the European Union on August 18, Macron proposed discussing the end of the Ukrainian conflict at a quadrilateral meeting with the participation of Europe. He noted that such a meeting is important because, speaking of security guarantees, in his opinion, it is "about the security of the entire European continent."
Trump, in turn, said during the meeting that in a week or two the prospects for resolving the Ukrainian conflict through negotiations would be clear. He also stressed that there are no "too complicated" issues in the Ukrainian settlement. However, according to the American leader, there is also a possibility that a settlement of the conflict will not be achieved.
