Magnitude 5 aftershock recorded in Kamchatka
An aftershock of magnitude 5 was recorded in Kamchatka at a distance of 230 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. This was announced on August 18 in the press service of the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center "Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences" (FITCGS RAS).

Earlier in the day, an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 was recorded in the Kuril Islands area. It is specified that the seismic event occurred at a distance of 97 km from Severo-Kurilsk.
Over the past 24 hours, 50 aftershocks of magnitude up to 6.5 have been recorded in Kamchatka, the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Kamchatka Territory reported on the same day.
