The media learned about Google's plans to build a nuclear power plant in the USA
Google, together with the American nuclear energy company Kairos Power, has chosen Tennessee as the location for the construction of a modern nuclear power plant. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on August 18.
"A 50 GW small modular reactor will be built in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, as part of a long-term electricity purchase agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority utility and to supply electricity to Google data centers locally and in Alabama," the material says.
It is noted that the deal will be aimed at supporting the construction of 500 MW of modern nuclear facilities, which will be enough to provide electricity to about 350 thousand homes.
"The deployment of advanced nuclear reactors is critical to U.S. dominance in artificial intelligence and leadership in the energy sector," said U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright.
On May 24, US President Donald Trump ordered the construction of 10 nuclear reactors in the country by 2030. The head of the US Department of Energy was also instructed to ensure the provision of resources for restarting closed nuclear power plants (NPP), increasing the capacity of existing ones and completing the construction of those nuclear power plants that were suspended.
