About 11,000 South Koreans have filed lawsuits demanding monetary compensation from former President Yoon Seok-young and his wife Kim Gong-hee for attempting to impose martial law in December last year. This was reported by the Yonhap news agency on August 17.

"Kim Kyung-ho, a lawyer at the Hoin law Firm, will file a lawsuit with the Seoul Central District Court on Monday on behalf of 11,000 plaintiffs, demanding compensation in the amount of 100,000 won (about 5.8 thousand rubles. — Ed.) per person," the article says.

According to the lawsuit, the imposition of martial law by Yun Seok—yeol in December 2022 is a deliberate crime against human rights that infringed on the dignity of citizens. The plaintiffs consider him responsible, and his wife an accomplice who provoked the decision, and demand compensation from both.

Yoon Seok-young, who served as president of South Korea, was arrested on January 15 in a corruption case, which was an "unprecedented" case in which investigative authorities detained a person who ruled the state. Later, on January 18, the president was taken into custody, which caused discontent among his supporters, who staged pogroms in the country. On July 15, it became known that Yoon Seok-yeol was arrested again, as the court also feared that he might destroy evidence.

On August 13, the wife of former South Korean President Kim Keon-hee was arrested on charges of corruption and interference in the parliamentary and general elections of 2022 and 2024. She was directly involved in a stock price manipulation scheme involving Deutsch Motors, a BMW dealer in South Korea. Over the years, Kim has received bribes and "luxury gifts" in exchange for business services.
