- The nutritionist declared the permissibility of desserts and burgers in a healthy diet
A modern approach to nutrition allows you to include even desserts and burgers in your diet, if you do it consciously and in moderation. On August 21, Tatiana Meshcheryakova, a nutritionist at Level Kitchen, a nutritionist, and an expert in the field of healthy nutrition, told Izvestia why you should not completely abandon your favorite dishes, even if you follow the principles of proper nutrition.
"A healthy diet is based on a balance of nutrients and energy. Even sweets and fast food are acceptable if you consume them in moderation and take into account the total calorie content of the diet," the expert said.
The expert recommends making an informed choice. For example, instead of a fast-food burger, make a homemade version with a whole-grain bun, meat patty and lots of vegetables.
As for desserts, the nutritionist advises against introducing strict prohibitions that only increase the desire to eat the "forbidden fruit." A box of doughnuts daily is unlikely to be beneficial, but even they can be afforded occasionally if the overall diet is varied and balanced. Healthy homemade desserts such as avocado chocolate mousse, fruit smoothies or berries with Greek yogurt can be an alternative.
Meshcheryakova also drew attention to the importance of portion size: a small piece of cake or a mini-burger will perfectly fit into the concept of proper nutrition, especially if combined with healthy dishes. If you ate a hamburger for lunch, supplement dinner with green salads and protein products.
In addition, the nutritionist said that the main problem with diets is that they divide foods into good and bad. In fact, a brownie is not bad, and an apple is good: both products can be part of a healthy diet.
The expert recommended following the 80/20 rule, where most of the diet consists of balanced meals, and the remaining 20% can be devoted to your favorite treats.
"Food should bring joy. Sometimes it can be a nutritious salad, and sometimes a chocolate dessert. The main thing is to understand that even not the healthiest dishes can become part of a healthy diet if consumed in moderation," the expert concluded.
On August 6, pediatrician, nutritionist, and SOLGAR expert Maria Kulikova spoke about the dangers of completely eliminating fats from the diet. According to her, they are one of the key macronutrients along with carbohydrates and proteins. Fats perform many vital functions, such as energy, as they are a concentrated source of energy, providing 9 calories per 1 g.
